Michael Liu is a veteran DJ and respected figure in California’s psychedelic trance scene, with a career spanning over 25 years. Based in San Francisco, he has been a passionate force in the city’s electronic dance music community since the late 90s, when he first emerged as a dedicated advocate for Goa and Psytrance culture.

Originally inspired by New Wave and Industrial sounds of the 1980s, Michael naturally gravitated toward the evolving psychedelic frequencies of the 90s. He began DJing in 1997, quickly becoming a staple in the underground party scenes of the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Los Angeles. His distinct style, musical depth, and commitment to the craft soon earned him bookings across the United States—from intimate club nights to major outdoor festivals.

In addition to DJing, Michael has played a pivotal role in building and nurturing the psytrance scene on the West Coast. He has organized countless events, but his long-running monthly event, Secret Psychedelica, stands out as a cornerstone of the community—consistently showcasing cutting-edge psychedelic sounds and providing a platform for emerging and established artists alike.

Known for his dynamic and emotionally intelligent sets, Michael brings a unique approach to every performance, reading the energy of the dancefloor and delivering tailored sonic journeys that resonate deeply with both seasoned psytrance fans and new listeners. His belief that every set is a one-of-a-kind experience continues to set him apart.

In 2023, Michael joined the Maharetta Records roster as an official label DJ. His performances now regularly feature selections from Maharetta’s powerful catalog, woven into his signature storytelling style. Fans can also expect to see Maharetta artists gracing the decks at Secret Psychedelica throughout the year.
